determines how to split input data into chunks

Parameters:
  • files (list of str) – Input file names
  • func_get_nevents_in_file (function, optional) – A function that takes the name of a file and returns the number of the events in the file. A function needs to be provide if at least one of max_events or max_events_per_run is a positive number.
  • max_events (int, optional) – The maximum number of events to be processed. No limit if -1 (default).
  • max_files (int, optional) – The maximum number of files to be processed. No limit if -1 (default).
  • max_events_per_run (int, optional) – The maximum number of events to be processed in each chunk. No limit if -1 (default).
  • max_files_per_run (int, optional) – The maximum number of files to be processed in each chunk. No limit if -1 (default).
Returns:

A list of tuples with three elements: a list of file names, the index of the first event to be processed, the number of events to be processed.
